How Replenish Grocers came to be

Welcome to my store! I hope to meet you soon and share with you my passion for living a low waste lifestyle to support a healthier planet for future generations. I dream of a world of plastic free oceans. I dream of a world where less waste goes to landfill. I dream of a world where climate change is no longer a concern. My passion stems from my lifelong love of the ocean. Growing up as a surfer in San Diego and now a marathon swimmer in San Francisco bay, the plastic pollution problem in something I have encountered on long swims, on beaches after surfing and on beach clean ups. Eventually I started to make small changes. A few things a month and over time the changes continued to mount. I am excited to share with you my journey to reduce my plastic usage and inspire others to do the same. Plastic is everywhere and it is hard to avoid it. Through my journey, there have been points of frustration and disappointment along the way. That said, I want to make sure people know that as they begin on this journey, this is normal! Do I have plastic in my house? Yes, I do. I have learned that it is important to focus on progress and not perfection whenever possible. Zero waste is an aspiration. Low Waste is absolutely attainable and together we can all do a little more and continue this journey together.

As I continued my journey, I realized San Francisco needs more stores that offer expansive bulk shopping, so I started to talk about this dream to create my own store more and more. Then one day in the South End Rowing Club Sauna I was ideating with a group of ladies as we warmed after a cold dip in the cold San Francisco Bay. That is the moment the name Replenish Grocers was born and since that day, I have been relentless to bring my dream to life.

Our Mission

At Replenish Grocers our mission is to help others in reducing their waste by offering bulk refills, reusable products that replace single-use disposable products as well as products that are sustainably packaged that will not contribute to the landfills. We offer a welcoming and educational experience with excellent customer service.

We understand that this is a journey, and we are here to support all customers at any point along their journey to live more sustainably

Our Vision

Replenish Grocers wants to be the first sustainable grocery store in San Francisco to help every consumer make more sustainable choices to support a healthier planet for future generations to come. We want to change the dialog from “zero waste” which is very aspirational and may cause people to be overwhelmed and frustrated. We want to transform the narrative to talk “Low Waste Lifestyle Living” as it is easily achievable by all and at Replenish, we will show you how.

Sustainability Pillars

Organic– supplying products that are free of pesticides and clean. In some cases, we may carry a non-organic option to ensure low waste shopping is financially attainable to all. Core staples may have an organic option and a non-organic option
Local First– We want to support our community by seeking out local producers of produce as well as local companies that supply eco-friendly products. By leveraging local vendors, we are also reducing our carbon footprint. Only when we cannot find a local option, we will investigate other alternatives looking as close to home as possible
Carefully curated– All items have been tested and approved by the founder. Efficacy is paramount and the usage experience is ideally as close into your current product usage experience.

Product sourcing requirements
a. No Single Use Plastic
b. “Non-GMO”⠀– Genetically modified seeds have questionable effects on our ecosystems and health. Out of precaution, Replenish will not stock GMO products.
Our Suppliers Replenish will seek to do business with companies that align with our values and could include companies that are Bcorps, Local, Women Owned, Family Owned, Minority owned
BYO Container + bags All customers will need to bring or buy their own containers for bulk filling purposes as well as reusable shopping bags.
