Hummus is one of those items that is challenging to find not packaged in plastic. And the great news is that making hummus at home is super quick and super easy. Especially if you have a Nutribullet blender. It is easy to prep, easy to make and easy to clean up.
You can also make this recipe zero waste. Dried chickpeas, otherwise known as garbanzo beans can be soaked over night. The next morning bring them to a boil and then let simmer for one hour. Let them cool before using them for the hummus. You can make extra so you can use some for your hummus and keep the rest to use on salads or roast them up in the oven with seasoning for a quick healthy snack. Garbanzo beans expand by 3x when soaked and cooked so one cup should be plenty as that should make about 3 cups of cooked beans which should be plenty for the recipe and for snacking on throughout the week.

Now that you have your garbanzo beans ready, you are ready to make your super simple hummus. Here is what you will want to add to your nutribullet:
- 15 oz of Garbanzo Beans
- 1 Garlic Clove – chopped
- Pinch of Salt
- 1/2 cup Tahini
- 3 tablespoons of Lemon Juice
- 3 tablespoons of Olive Oil
- Optional: to kick up the flavor add seasonings like Cayenne, Paprika or Crush Red Pepper
Once you have all the items in the blender, pulse and blend until the consistency you like. If it is slightly too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until it is your desired texture and consistency.
Pro Tip: All the ingredients are available at Replenish Grocers. To make it truly zero waste and your Tahini jar is empty, bring it to Replenish Grocers. We will be sure to clean it and sanitize it for a customer to reuse.
Enjoy your hummus as a dip with some veggies, on a piece of bread or sandwich or with a nice Mediterranean salad!
